Castleberry Hill’s ArtStroll in Historic Downtown Atlanta
-Lindsey Riley
Castleberry Hill, a part of historic downtown Atlanta coined as the “historic arts district,” is home to the city’s most popular art stroll held every second Friday of the month. Locals and tourists are invited to visit and take in local artists’ creations and visit neighborhood businesses and restaurants participating in the event. Whether you’re a foodie, love wine, or enjoy taking in art from some of Atlanta’s most talented people, Castleberry Hill’s ArtStroll has something for you.
"The Castleberry Hill art walk has so much to offer. You can experience so many types of art, find good food and drinks, and meet the most interesting people all in a night. It's impossible to have a dull moment when attending this event," said Renee Brown of Marietta, a fan of the Castleberry Hill ArtStroll.
The Talent
Dozens of artists have their work displayed throughout the neighborhood’s many galleries, which are all accessible and open to the public for viewing during the art stroll. Currently featured artists include Alan Loehle, one of only three artists in the Atlanta area to receive a Guggenheim Fellowship for Painting, and Cesar Plascencia, a well-renowned Mexican photorealistic painter. Castleberry Hill’s ArtStroll also offers visitors a chance to make their own piece of art by designing iron tiles, which are poured on location at Elliot Street Deli and Pub (ESP) and definitely a sight worth seeing.
The Ambiance
While Castleberry Hill offers an impressive catalog of exhibits, the neighborhood also offers an amazing selection of restaurants and specialty shops that offer unique products. The Wine Shoe offers $10 wine tastings which may take place over the course of the night, while iwi fresh Garden Day Spa offers hand scrubs and chair massages. Locations serving tapas with eclectic and diverse menus are plentiful and include the Bottle Rocket and 255 Tapas Lounge. There truly is something for everyone.
