In Houston, Texas, Free Press Summer Festival has become one of the biggest events of the year, with the line-up this year including Snoop Dogg, Flaming Lips, Major Lazer, Two Door Cinema Club, Pretty Lights, Afrojack and even Willie Nelson to name a few.

“[My] favorite act was Snoop Dogg,” said Vincent Pumpa, a 22-year old student, “because he has this bigger than life presence and he definitely puts on a hell of a show.”

The two-day festival took place in Eleanor Tinsley Park on the first weekend of June. If you do decide to attend the festival, expect there to be excruciatingly hot weather and full days of bands to see for all music tastes. Pumpa applauded the festivals organizers.

“The set up for the festival is extremely well put together what with the cool off tents, free water stations and decent supply of portable loos set up around the place, this in turn made for more time enjoying the music.”

There are many options for tickets, the Fancy Pants is the best way to spend the day with express entry, special viewing stages and large cool-down tents to make the day all the easier. Fancy Pants for the two days cost $65, but its well worth it on the day to be able to get out of the sun. David Pumpa, 58 from Australia, found that the best way to enjoy the day was with the Fancy Pants tickets, “Fancy Pants was best investment ever just to be able to go into the tents during the day - hard to survive without that break.”

When you are at Summer Fest, try something a bit different. There’s the slippery dip on the hill where you get yourself wet, muddy and colorful. Or else there’s jumping on-stage with Diplo during his set and have a great time dancing in front of hundreds of people. Neither of these things may be your style, but with a friendly crowd and being somewhere around people you’ve never met or will see again, it’s worth doing something crazy.
